Brian is the Bridge 2 Business Programme Manager and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Young Enterprise Scotland.
A recent teaching background in FE / HE, with prior commercial roles in Financial Services and Oil & Gas Recruitment, Brian was recently developing the CPD Programme at The Centre for Open Studies at The University of Glasgow, and was involved in Business Enterprise and Entrepreneurial projects in FE Colleges.
Now involved in supporting the development of a change in culture and attitudes towards Entrepreneurship in the Tertiary Education Sector, diplomatically ruffling feathers along the way!
At Young Enterprise Scotland, Brian is responsible for the Bridge 2 Business Programme which aims to Inspire, Connect and Support FE College and University Students into business. Within that role, Brian also makes a significant contribution to the Scotland Can Do Tertiary Agenda which seeks to raise the profile of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise teaching and learning across the FE Colleges and HE University Institutions in Scotland. He is the founder and convenor of the successful Tertiary Enterprise Educators Network, and established the Bridge 2 Business Tertiary Education Enterprise Awards, the first national awards to specifically recognise Enterprise Education in FE Colleges. Category winners for these awards included the most entrepreneurial Students, Educators and Institutions that had contributed to the FE College sector, engaging all levels in a learning while doing approach to business.
Brian also leads on the Young Enterprise Start Up Programme in Scotland, enabling University Students to start and run a business whilst continuing their studies
Brian is also responsible for harnessing all external relationships that enables not just Young Enterprise Scotland to deliver in Colleges and Universities, but to also work collaboratively with key strategic partners such as Elevator UK, CREATE Highlands & Islands, Converge Challenge, and the Scottish Institute for Enterprise. Through this inclusivity, Brian has been instrumental in meeting the demands and challenges of all FE / HE learners and educators, fostering a Can Do spirit and positive attitude that has ensured a collective and proactive approach to how Enterprise Education should be consider now and in the future.
Brian is an active committee member of the Institute of Directors Scotland Young Directors Forum, an initiative that helps foster Scotland’s next generation of leaders.
Also engaged with the Changing the Chemistry lobby group that seeks to directly influence the inclusivity and diversity of board members currently operating in the UK.
Combining all roles, duties and responsibilities, Brian has become a very valued member of the Young Enterprise Scotland Strategic Leadership Team, helping to shape the structure of the organisation, meet the aims and objectives of the Tertiary Programmes and make effective decisions that will create future opportunities for company growth.
