Scottish entrepreneur launches new entrepreneur agony aunt podcast

Award-winning entrepreneur, Vicky Brock, has launched a new podcast to support startups, CEOs and founders through the personal and professional challenges of growing their business.

Each week she’ll be joined by a high profile, expert guest as they dive into a problem submitted by a listener. The Entrepreneur Agony Aunt Podcast aims to provide no-nonsense, practical advice based on the hard-learned lessons and mistakes of seasoned entrepreneurs.

Vicky Brock commented: “You don’t learn anything if you don’t make mistakes – but it is critical to share those mistakes and the learnings, so that other people don’t waste time, money and experience the heartache of falling into the same traps you did. I have been lucky to have some incredible mentors in my working life and I wanted to find a way to expand their advice and wisdom to a wider startup audience.

“I was inspired and humbled by how many founders, CEOs and startup employees got in touch after reading my blog posts to thank me for saying the things that nobody else was – including revealing the raw side of exhaustion, investment and the pressures of failing. With that came a series of tough, honest questions about challenges people we facing in their everyday business lives and I felt these simply weren’t being sufficiently tackled by the existing advice and support networks. So the Entrepreneur Agony Aunt concept evolved from that. The motto is keeping it real, telling like it is – because there are no mistakes that someone else hasn’t already made.”

In November 2017 Vicky was named Scotland’s Most Inspiring Business Person of the Year by Founders4Schools at the Entrepreneurial Scotland Awards and she recently became a Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) Ambassador.

With a new 30 minute episode each week, Vicky’s Series 1 podcast guests include:

  • Mark Logan, IOD Director of the Year and former COO of Skyscanner, talking CEO stress and management best practices;

  • Cally Russell, Founder & CEO of Mallzee, answering a reader’s question about PR and sales visibility;

  • Joe Tree, Blipfoto Founder, talking about facing failure and bouncing back;

  • Dr Nina Burrowes giving her expertise on coping with trauma while at work, and how employers can support their staff as they recover;

  • And young entrepreneurs at the beginning of their careers, like Isabel Hirama, who shares her experiences on learning how to ask for what you want and managing upwards.

Vicky added: “I have about 20 guests from Scotland, England, the US and Europe already scheduled to record an Entrepreneur Agony Aunt session. It has been terrific fun and a great learning experience so far, I can’t wait to share all that knowledge with a wider audience.”

Vicky won Innovator of the Year at the FDM everywoman in Technology Awards 2014 and led Clear Returns to be named both top Tech StartUp in Europe by the European Commission and ScotlandIS Ecommerce Innovation of the Year. She is a Director Emeritus of the Digital Analytics Association and previously worked with Google Analytics, HP and Tesco Clubcard.

Named by Forbes.com and  Bloomberg as one of the nine top female tech CEOs to watch, she is a Tech London Advocate and one of Computer Weekly’s Top 50 Women in IT.
