GDPR – Just four letters, but they could cost your business €20m, or even more.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation which aimed at giving data subjects (citizens) back control over their personal information comes into force on 25th May 2018 and it threatens draconian punishments for those companies that break the rules.

The regulation requires companies to be more transparent about why they hold your data, and what they intend to do with it, and how they intend to protect it, ensuring its security and integrity.

If your company isn’t GDPR compliant, you need to get moving, ensuring the correct procedures are in place can take many months. The cost of getting it wrong could be enormous.

SBNN spoke exclusively to Scottish GDPR Training Company, OSP Cyber Academy, their Chief Training Officer, Richard Preece had some helpful information and advice to share.

We are now in what has been sometimes described as a new Digital Age, that is increasingly hyper-connected, complex, dynamic and uncertain.  This creates new opportunities for growth and innovation, but also creates new vulnerabilities, whilst exacerbating often known but previously not-fully addressed risks.

The potential impacts of these upon individuals, organisations, the economy and society are not always simple to understand, therefore the risks have not always been effectively managed.  This has driven the flurry of new legislation in the UK, EU and elsewhere in the world, including the United States.

OSP Cyber Academy has recognised the increased business challenge this has created, and designed and developed GCHQ Certified Training Scheme for Awareness and Practitioner Courses, for GDPR Data Protection and can provide bespoke GDPR courses and scenario workshops to help organisations prepare for the future.

Given all of the obvious Cyber Security and Data Protection issues now at stake, it was a natural choice for OSP Cyber Academy to join forces with Aberdeen based Restrata, to utilise their purpose built Incident Management Centre now supporting every aspect of training and support for the Oil & Gas and Cyber Sector.
