HR professionals join forces to launch outsourced HR offering for local SMEs

Two HR experts from Kinross and Fife are combining their skills and experience to launch a new business aimed at local small and medium sized companies.

Duncan Campbell and Mo Gill have launched The HR Dept Dundee and West Fife, to provide high quality but affordable outsourced HR advice and support for SMEs in the area.

Between them, the pair have more than 40 years of HR experience in small and large organisations, across the UK in the private and public sectors.

Mr Campbell’s career has been predominantly in the public sector, though his skill set is complemented perfectly by Ms Gill, who ran her own consultancy for 20 years. Together they are looking to develop the business throughout Dundee, Angus and West Fife.

Ms Gill said: “I’m well used to working in the SME community having worked on a contract basis for over 20 years, so I understand the pain and problems they go through.

“I’ve also worked with large organisations and so has Duncan, so together we have a unique range of experience and expertise that we can bring to large organisations and small businesses alike.

“Our business model is to target SMEs but we’re looking to support large organisations as well. You’d expect them to have an in-house HR department but we can supplement that capability by, for example, offering advice or helping on project work such as restructuring, developing new pay and grading systems, developing competency frameworks and delivering learning & development interventions.”

Mr Campbell said: “It’s a really exciting time for us both and we’re looking forward to the variety and challenges of working with different businesses across all sectors. We believe we have a great offering working in partnership with business owners to help them become the success stories of the future.

“Employment law applies to everybody equally, whether you have one employee or 1,000, and there’s evidence to show that having good HR advice and support plays a crucial role in business growth and success.

“Most small businesses can’t afford in house HR departments and yet having an effective HR presence is vital for growth, so it’s best to put it in place straight away, rather than waiting until problems arise.

“What we’re looking to provide is peace of mind, absolute security and the freedom to concentrate on growing your business.

“It is the beginning of a new year and perhaps the right time to review your HR processes and procedures.  We are offering a free review to help businesses ensure they are compliant with current and pending employment legislation.”

The HR Dept is a UK-wide company based in Bristol which has a network of 63 licensees working in 85 territories around the UK and Ireland, providing the full breadth of HR services, from recruitment, contracts, employee relations, training and benefits, as well as policies and administration, to SMEs in their local areas.

Managing director Gemma Tumelty said: “It’s great news for SMEs in the area that two experts of Duncan and Mo’s quality and experience are setting up The HR Dept Dundee & West Fife. We wish them all the best with running the license in their new territory and have great confidence that the new business will be a huge success.”
