Speyside communications agency boosts digital offering with senior hire

Speyside based creative communications agency ‘Spey’, which last month was named ‘New Agency of The Year’, has bolstered its digital media offering with the appointment of a digital expert from one of the UK’s most long established and successful media companies.

Mike Dee, formerly Commercial Innovation Manager at DC Thomson, has joined the growing firm as an Associate Partner to lead the digital arm of the business.

Since it officially launched in August 2017, Spey has built up an impressive client base including the entire Scotch whisky portfolio of drinks giant Brown-Forman (owner of Jack Daniels), Loch Fyne Oysters and Gordonstoun School.

Mr Dee’s appointment means the agency’s full service offering now includes digital and social media, PR, marketing, influencer engagement, advertising, media buying, design and web development. It also follows on from the hiring of award-winning former BBC journalist Eleanor Bradford who joined the agency in January.

Welcoming Mike joining her team, Jennifer Robertson said: ”This appointment marks the next big step for ‘Spey’ as we are able to offer our clients a broader top-class service. Mike’s appointment is the last piece of the jigsaw enabling us to offer a genuine one-stop-shop. My ambition from the get-go was to combine the powerful force of data, digital and social media with advertising as a core stream of the business.

“Mike brings a wealth of talent accumulated at his time at DC Thomson and London-based digital and technology-focussed publishers, which means that now Spey can integrate our communications services further delivering meaningful and measurable impact with the ambitious brands we work with.”

Mike Dee added: “The landscape of media has fundamentally changed. The future of successful communication campaigns lies in being able to offer both creative and commercially viable solutions that support brands across multiple media platforms.

The evolution of the industry is diversification and there is no single route to market any more. The difference for Spey when it comes to servicing clients and helping them understand and benefit from the increasingly complex world of content distribution and social media, we are not just competing with big creative agencies from the city, it is major media outlets. The benefit is that Spey is doing it from the beautiful rural location of Speyside and proving that that you don’t need a city postcode to deliver award-winning work.”
